5-star recruit Makur Maker has created a major buzz for the culture as he committed to Howard University on Friday.
“I was the 1st to announce my visit to Howard & others started to dream “what if”. I need to make the HBCU movement real so that others will follow,” announced Maker via Twitter. “ I hope I inspire guys like Miley Williams to join me on this journey. I am committing to Howard U & coach Kenny Blakeney.”
This commitment makes him the highest- ranked prospect to commit to an historically Black college or university.
The 7-foot Center chose Howard over powerhouse schools such as Kentucky, UCLA, and Memphis.
This decision comes after the recent discussion that more top high school African-American recruits should look to sign to Historically Black institutions instead of predominantly white ones.
Makur has already become a true pioneer in sports despite not playing a single collegiate or professional game.
Hopefully Makur can start a trend that other black athletes will soon follow.
