Kansas City Chief quarterback Patrick Mahomes finalized a 10-year contract extension that will be worth up to $502 million.
This contract is the first half a billion contract in not just NFL but sports history.
Mahomes entered the league as the 10 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft but his dominance didn’t start so soon as he sat on the bench the entire season behind Alex Smith.
Although Smith led the team to the playoffs he would depart from the team at the end of the season, leading the beginning of the Mahomes era in Kansas City.
Mahomes would then take the reins at quarterback and take the league by storm with 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns to tack all while maintaining a 82.0 QBR.
These record setting stats would lead to Mahomes winning multiple awards but the most prestigious of them all was being named the 2018 NFL Most Valuable Player award..
The MVP would continue his momentum and lead the Chiefs to Super Bowl LIV against the San Francisco 49ers.
Despite early struggles,a second half comeback would help Mahomes leave with not only a victory but the Super Bowl MVP award.
The Chiefs are fully invested in their 24-year old QB and believe his early production is just the beginning of much more success not only for him but the franchise as well.
