What Men Want is a film showcasing not only women in a positive light but, gives an outlook on what men are actually thinking!
The film is a role-reverse from the 2000s’ classic movie, What Women Want and shows that women can win a male-dominated industry. Taraji P. Henson (Ali Davis) played a powerful sports agent whom had to shift herself in certain situations but, after gaining physic abilities – she began to understand men on a different level.
The film channels so many factors that are relevant in this day of age – even when it came to “one night stands.” Taraji P. Henson met her love interest Aldis Hodge at a bar and he caught her eye after making her a delicious drink. The two hit it off well and headed home to the bedroom.
“That is something a lot of men have done and that means a lot of women have done it too,” said Aldis Hodge. “They (Ali and Will) had a connection, it turned into something serendipities because it turned into something real.”
When it comes to how Ali and Will met, Aldis believed that it wasn’t where they met – it was the growth of each other that drew them together and continued their relationship as the film went on.
“As far as respect, if you take someone home the first night and you respect yourself, you automatically respect them – what can you judge them on? They’re doing the same thing you’re doing!,” said Aldis Hodge.
There are so many great points of them film. Not only do they portray women in a positive light but, also showcasing being a single father. Will (Aldis Hodge) was a single father who’s wife passed away, leaving him to care for his son. There was a point in the film where Will tells Ali about using his son as a pawn but, Will always remained a good father in every scene. When asked about playing the single father role Hodge states, “Having growing up without a father, it was a privilege to me because I got to represent my idea of what a present father was.”
Being raised by a single mother, Aldis states that he’s used to a woman like Ali so, he used his personal experiences to tap within both characters to create the perfect dynamic between each other.
“What Men Want,” also had a stellar cast including Taraji P. Henson, Aldis Hodge, Richard Roundtree, Tracy Morgan and many more. What Men Want hits theaters nationwide on February 8, 2019.
