Amara La Negra is a rapper from Miami, Florida, and as a star of “Love and Hip Hop Miami,” she is beginning to make her mark on the music industry. You may have seen the video of her and producer Young Hollywood, in which he criticizes her for embracing her Afro-Latina race. He continues to make insulting comments about her hairstyle, saying that those in the industry prefer clean cut women who fit a certain mold. She did not stand for it, immediately telling him that she is proud to represent other Afro-Latinas like herself, embracing the fact that “Not all Latina women look like JLO or Sofia Vergara or Shakira.”

The fact that she is not afraid to be seen as different from other women in the industry is only one of many things that make her so admirable. Her name “La Negra” is a reference to her Dominican roots. Amara has a strong following on social media, and has recently signed a record deal with Fast Life Entertainment and BMG.

She has way more in store, and you can keep up with Amara by tuning in to “Love & Hip Hop Miami” Mondays at 9PM.
