The sophomore guard and Texas star Andrew Jones has been diagnosed with leukemia and has already started treatment, reported from officials at the university.

Before injuring his wrist in December, Jones averaged 15 points a game; however upon his return, Jones began complaining about having a low amount of energy. He was then sent to medical staff for tests.

“Speaking for our entire team and staff, we love Andrew and will do everything we can to support his family and help him get back to health,” Texas coach Shaka Smart said in the university statement.

As of right now, there hasn’t been much information released about Jones’ condition.

Jones didn’t travel with the team for Saturday’s loss against Baylor. Shaka Smart appeared to be shaken up by the some of the remarks made by the media, and he did not answer questions about Jones’ condition or hospitalization status.

Texas hosted No. 16 TCU yesterday, and was able to pull off an upset against the powerhouse team. After the win, the Longhorns’ players showed tribute to Jones.
