After releasing his “Friends” inspired music video last week for “Moonlight,” Jay-Z has given us yet another visual off his “4:44” album for his “MaNyfaCedGod” track starring actress Lupita Nyong’o.
He shifts the mood for something darker in this emotional visual. In another stark black and white video, the young actress delivers an emotional interpretive dance to the James Blake- assisted track where she’s torn dealing with anguish from her strained relationship with her significant other.
The video opens with a subtitled lyric from the song “Our external reality is an opportunity to heal our internal upset” and ends with Lupita reciting a line from poet Rumi, who shares the same name as the Carters newborn daughter, by saying “Be grateful for whatever comes, because each has been sent from a guide from beyond.” She expresses her pain with tears for the majority of the video. Ultimately, she gets over her past lover and runs through them without fear at the end of the video.
Non-Tidal subscribers can watch a quick snippet of the video below and Tidal users can watch it in full here.
