After attending Kali Uchis tour stop in Philly last week, I had to learn more about her opening act Gabriel Garzon Montano. Gabriel blessed the stage with an electrifying performance.

I found out that the 29 year old Brooklyn native is not new to the music world. Fun fact, he was featured on Drake’s Grammy-nominated album “If You’re Reading This it’s Too Late.” Montano’s single 6 8  was sampled in Jungle.

According to Red Bull Music, he said “Jungle is a Jam. It’s surreal to hear [Drake] over [my song]. The first time I heard it, I was listening to how they chopped me up while checking out his melodic choices over the changes and it was an overload on a few levels, in the best way. ”

Gabriel Garzon Montano was born and raised in Brooklyn to two immigrant parents. His inspiration growing up in New York included Prince, Marvin Gaye,  Family Stone, Bach, and more. Montano’s music is a combination R&B and funk. His rhythm is unique and makes him stand out. During his performance we got the opportunity to witness the magic happen as he recorded live beats.  In 2017, he released his debut album “Jardin.”

If you haven’t already checked out this melodic, funky-soul artist I highly encourage you do. Click the link below to hear his debut studio album “Jardin.”
