Meek Mill is denied a new trial according to a TMZ report. Joe Tacopina, Meek’s attorney, told the media outlet that Judge Brinkley made it clear that she had already made a final decision on June 18, 2018 about the matter despite prosecutors acknowledging that he deserved a new trial.
“After an in-depth review of records, court history, notes of testimony, and evidence submitted at the evidentiary hearing, this court hereby denies defendant’s petition for PCRA relief as defendant failed to meet his burden of proof,” said Brinkley. The burden of proof is used to cast doubt on the evidence used to secure his 2007 arrest which was followed by his arrest.
The district attorney stated Mill deserved a new trial due to his arresting officer, Graham, who is also the sole witness in the case, is at the center of a massive police corruption scandal in Philadelphia. This notion was basically dismissed by Brinkley because the cop who said that Graham is a dirty cop is also a dirty cop and therefore not a creditable source. She also says she believes the jury’s’ 2008 guilty verdict would remain the same regardless of the “dirty cop” accusations made against Graham.
Meek’s team will definitely appeal Brinkley’s latest ruling. “We continue to believe that this miscarriage of justice will be corrected upon further review, and that publics confidence in the impartiality of the judicial system in Pennsylvania will be restored,” said his attorney, Tacopina.
