The Texas Tech Red Raiders defeated the Michigan State Spartans 61-51 in the National Semifinal (Final Four) to advance to the National Championship. A game in which both teams played very well on the defensive side of the ball, was close till late in the second half. With 11:16 left in the second half, Texas Tech went on a scoring run to lead 45-33. They would not look back and would keep their lead for the rest of the game to send them to the National Title game.
Matt Mooney lead the way scoring 22 points while shooting 8/16 from the field. Texas Tech star Jarrett Culver struggled in the first half scoring just 1 point but, scored 9 in the second half which included a three pointer to put the game out of reach from Michigan State.
Texas Tech will play Virginia in the National Championship on Monday. Both teams will be playing in their first title game.
Texas Tech and Virginia will each be making their first-ever appearance in the title game.
It will be the first National Championship with two first-time participants since Magic Johnson's Michigan State and Larry Bird's Indiana State squared off in 1979. pic.twitter.com/md95NxBv2D
