He’s referenced that the album was meant to be heard backwards and now he’s taking his wordsmith skills a step further. Roughly eight months after dropping his fourth studio album, Kendrick Lamar may be releasing a collector’s edition of the album – except this time with a twist.
Back in August, he stated a theory that his Grammy-nominated album “DAMN.” was written to be played in reverse, so now he’s releasing a special collector’s edition of the album featuring the tracklist in reverse. So instead of starting off with “BLOOD.,” it’ll begin with “DUCKWORTH.” then go into “GOD.” and “FEAR.” He told MTV News, “I think like a week after the album came out, [fans] realized you can play the album backwards. It plays as a full story and even a better rhythm. It’s one of my favorite rhythms and tempos within the album. It’s something that we definitely premeditate while we’re in the studio.”
He then added that listening to the album backwards doesn’t change the intended message, but instead provides a different vibe from beginning to end. In addition to the reversed tracklist on the album, the new special edition will feature a black-and-white cover of Kendrick.
An official release date has yet to be announced, so be on the look out for that soon.
