JAY-Z and Meek Mill are combining their creativity, power and knowledge together forming Dream Chasers, the label.
Meek’s new Dream Chasers label will be under the umbrella of Jay-Z’s Roc Nation company finalizing the deal Tuesday, July 23rd.
Meek told Rolling Stone, “I’m 32 years old, I’m in a nice spot in the music business and I think it’s time for me to focus on growing artists because that’s what I love to do. I love to spend time on helping artists grow, and I think it’s time for me to dive in, business-wise.”
Speaking with reporters Tuesday, per Variety, entrepreneur and artist JAY-Z discussed the ambitions behind the partnership with Meek Mill staying he believes in everything Meek has done prior, proving that he’s prepared to lead the label.
“We look at the big picture—this is way beyond signing artists and having hot records,” JAY said.
JAY-Z doesn’t just believe in Meek’s work ethic as an artist but, as a businessman as well.
JAY-Z said about the collaboration, “We come from the same neighborhoods, we are the few who made it through. That responsibility is not lost on us. We have not made it to this point to just irresponsibly live our life. It’s a responsibility we have to the entire culture.”
Meek Mill will serve as the president of Dream Chasers label and will be putting together a team to assist in their goal of signing and developing artists with staying power. Recording, strategy, marketing, and other typically outsourced aspects of the creative process will be handled in house.
Meek Mill has a busy summer as he’s also releasing a Free Meek documentary via Amazon and also heading on tour with Future for the Legendary Nights tour.
