Georgia Teen Receives $100k Scholarship from Beyonce and Jay-Z

Karissa Jackson a 17 year old high school senior from Lawrenceville, GA was awarded a $100,00 scholarship for college and furthering her education. The scholarship is funded by Beyonce’s and Jay-Z’s OTR II Scholarship Program through the BeyGOOD Initiative and Shawn Carter Foundation.

Karissa Jackson is highly involved in the Boys and Girls Club. She assist in leading a cheerleading program, tutors the youth of the Boys and Girls Club, and also volunteers in a program that provides meals for military families. The ambitious teens plans to continue her education at Kennesaw State University fall 2019 and hopes to become a social worker.

The two organizations, BeyGood Initiative and the Shawn Carther Foundation, collaborated to create the program for exceptional high school seniors with a record of academic excellence.

The press release reads:

Beyoncé Knowles-Carter and Shawn “JAY-Z” Carter announce a new scholarship program that will award one exceptional senior high school student, with financial needs, 100K to put toward their enrollment in a college or university for the academic year 2018-2019. The award will serve as a dedicated university-based fund for each selected student throughout the duration of the student’s enrollment.

The scholarship will be chosen by the Boys and Girls Club of America and will be given to one lucky student in each of the couple’s On The Run II Tour markets. Is $100k enough to pay for your tuition?
