The 2018 Grammy Awards is already making history before it even airs. Some people had a mouthful to say about some “snubs” from the categories as the nominees were revealed yesterday, but to see how far it’s come in the last 10 years is truly astonishing. To think nearly a decade ago, Kanye West was the only hip hop artist up for Album of the Year and now Hip Hop and R&B have completely taken over the Grammys.
Yesterday was an exciting time seeing all of our favorite Hip Hop and R&B artists get recognized for their great work in the last year, finally they’re getting their just due. As the good news traveled around social media, we got a chance to see some first time nominees rave over the esteemed honor.
Cardi B, the people’s champ for her quick rise to fame with her seemingly rags to riches story, and all of her fans celebrated in awe of her two nominations for best rap song and rap performance.
Another artist we’re happy to see get nominated is the American Teen himself, Khalid who proved to be fierce competition as he received a total of five nominations. To see the 19 year-old become an R&B sensation in such a short amount of time, we’re super proud of him!
