Making A Name: Philly Pro Boxer Damon Allen Jr.

IMG_1708At the age of eight, Damon Allen Jr. began boxing and developing a passion for a sport he is now making a career out of. For the Allen family, boxing is a family sport. Allen is guided by his father, Damon Allen Sr., grandfather, Mitchell Allen Jr.,  and great-grandfather, Mitchell Allen Sr.


After two years in college, he realized in order for his boxing career to take off he had to fully commit to his craft.  He put his college career on hold but plans to go back and finish what he started. Boxing is a sport you have to put a lot of work and time into and Allen is completely committed to this lifestyle.

Boxing for Allen is a way to change his life and the lives around him. He loves the adrenaline rush, contact and how people view him after he comes out of the boxing ring victorious. Since beginning boxing, Allen’s skills has landed him in Sport’s Illustrated, won him gold in the 2009 Junior Golden Gloves Nationals, and much more. Now at the age of 23, Allen is a professional fighter competing in the Lightweight division with a flawless record of eight wins and no losses. Allen is the embodiment of a great work ethic producing results.

IMG_3316Famed boxers Bernard Hopkins and Oscar De La Hoya are people Allen look up to. He personally witnessed Hopkins put Philadelphia on the map; they spent some time training in the same gym.  Allen admires Oscar De La Hoya because of his professionalism, his boxing skills and all that he has been able to accomplish. Allen is currently signed to De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions.

What inspires and keeps Allen motivated is wealth, seeing smiles and the opportunity to change the people lives around him and his own by doing something that he loves. “Hard work pays off,” is the quote Allen lives by and everyday he commits to working hard. His next fight is scheduled for next month with no official date set.
