Chloe and Halle Bailey are sisters and a musical duo. They got their start on a YouTube channel covering songs back in 2011. Over the years as their videos started to become viral, their subscribers began to skyrocket and they now have over 700,000. Beyoncé shared their most viewed cover of her song, “Pretty Hurts”, on her Facebook page and ended up signing them to her management, Parkwood Entertainment, in 2015.
You’ve all seen their cameos in the visuals for Beyoncé’s album Lemonade alongside fellow young stars, Zendaya and Amandla Stenberg. They had the honor of being the opening act for the Europe leg of Beyoncé’s Formation World Tour. Their talent has not only been noticed by Queen Bey, but by the First Lady, Michelle Obama. They were a part of the opening performance for Michelle’s SXSW Keynote. On April 29 of this year, they released their debut EP Sugar Symphony.
While creating their own original music, they still continue to make covers. Their short cover of Desiigner’s “Timmy Turner” went viral on social media last month. Chloe and Halle’s talents don’t end when it comes to singing and songwriting; they’re also gifted instrumentalists! They learned how to play the piano and guitar from watching YouTube tutorials. Chloe has also begun to learn how to produce music and produced four songs on their EP.
When it comes to their sound, they don’t allow their main genres, R&B and Soul, keep them inside a box. Their musical influences range from Twenty One Pilots to Billie Holiday to Frank Ocean. These two young ladies are truly an inspiration for those who dream to be in the music business. They continue to constantly learn and improve their craft on their own at the ages of 18 and 16-years-old.
“Our dad taught us to do everything on our own,” said Chloe in an interview with Rolling Stone. “This music industry is so dominated by men and older people. You have to look into yourself and say, ‘I can do this. I’m bomb too. I can have wonderful ideas.'”
To have such wisdom and confidence at such a young age along with Beyoncé’s musical guidance, Chloe and Halle are on the road to stardom.
