Last week, Demi Lovato posted pictures of her imperfections on Instagram, and we freaked out because… could she be any more amazing? And just when we thought she couldn’t get any more inspiring, she made a statement about her posts for E! News. The singer said,”I just thought to myself, someone needs to show my fans and anybody that’s looking at my account that what you see isn’t always what’s real.”
She added, “And so, I decided to embrace my flaws and—I don’t even like to call them flaws, it’s just a part of who I am—and show the world that I’m imperfect, but that’s what makes me beautiful.”
Demi went on to say dieting isn’t for her and she doesn’t think it should be for anybody. The key is to remember it’s a lifestyle (physically and emotionally), and putting restrictions on what you can and cannot eat defeats the purpose of that healthy lifestyle. “I think that dieting is something that we’ve been forced to kind of do because of the diet culture…we’re praised if we don’t eat fried chicken and we eat a salad,” she said. It’s like, sometimes that’s what you want and it’s OK to treat yourself every once in a while.”
We love Demi for saying all that and advocating for young girls and women to embrace who they are and love themselves! We are all worthy of love.
