For International Women’s Day, Vogue decided to highlight a hair salon in Chicago. The beauty and fashion magazine did not settle for any salon, however, and paid a visit to Midge Welch, founder of her own salon in the city. Watch as she talks about the idea behind her salon–that of inclusion and respect. I absolutely love what Vogue has been doing (as well as Elle), putting the spotlight on women who usually aren’t recognized and appreciated because of their skin color, sexual orientation, or physical appearance. I absolutely the cultural implication of this piece and how it shines a beautiful light on black culture. I can’t wait for more from Vogue and other magazines!
